WOW! In my opinion Napoleon Hill did it again. His book, Outwitting The Devil was written in 1938, hidden away and not published until now. It was hidden because it was felt the material was so controversial that it would literally destroy Hill. After reading the book, I now wonder if Hill himself didn't fall victim to the "Devil" he interviews in his book. In his bestselling book Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill gives us the 17 principles to achievement. In Outwitting The Devil Hill presents us with the numerous ways we all limit ourselves, sabotaging our success. I find it very interesting that Napoleon Hill confesses in Outwitting the Devil that he knew the 17 principles of personal achievement, but did not know how to apply them! This was a very revealing confession. Napoleon Hill had spent over 20 years of his life interviewing the wealthiest men of his time as well as more than 25,000 men and women considered failures in order to organize and write Think and Grow Rich. Now here he was broke, wondering in a sea of indecision with no idea how to apply the philosophy he had spent so long compiling. For more on that piece of the story, you will want to read the book. It is remarkable how Hill weaves the key reasons people tend to fail and strategies about how to overcome these short comings through a so called "interview with the Devil". Hill, or I should say the Devil, points out to us that our biggest limitations are indecision, fear and a lack of a definite purpose. Through his interview Hill also uncovers how we tend to fall to the influence of our environment and give up when facing adversity. Hill cleverly disguises a discussion about the Law of Attraction by describing a "tool" used by the Devil called hypnotic rhythm. In the context of the book, the focus is being put on how "the Devil" takes us over through our continued thoughts of failure, fear, adversity, etc. obviously attracting to us more of the same. It makes the Devil's job much easier and puts his whole "take-over" on auto pilot. You may be thinking at this point why Hill and his family felt this book could destroy them. In the book, the Devil describes the many ways he uses organized religion and our educational system to recruit people to his side. Simply put, religion uses fear and education stops self-thinking. Brilliant! There is something Hill pulls out of his interview that I strongly disagree with. During the interview it is stressed that there comes a point in our drifting (indecision and lack of purpose) where there is no hope for return; no way out. I believe, no matter what stage of life we are in, once we are aware of and take control of our thoughts, feelings and actions we can live the life of our dreams. I encourage you to get a copy of Outwitting The Devil. Then decide for yourself if you are allowing your self-imposed limitations to stop you from achieving the greatness you are here to achieve.
